Despite what he says, Adam is not "fine." the summer before his freshman year should be a time full of possiblities, but Adam struggles with family tragedy and everyday teenage growing pains. Fortunately, Adam finds allies who help him repair his heartache as well as his relationship with his father. Adam's har has not been clipped since an automobile accident claimed the lives of his mother and baby sister, but his locsk are targeted by a bully, intent on clipping Adam's hair before he starts the 9th grade. Adam finds little support from his father who has turned to alcohol and drowns his sorrow. But Adam's grandmother is a solid, living force in his life and Adam discovers the strength one can find with the support of family and friends.
