With the coming into effect of the Treaty of Lisbon, the European Union will for the first time have a binding, codified bill of rights. Together with both the European Convention on Human Rights of the Council of Europe and existing national rights, this will ensure the protection of fundamental rights of the citizens of the Member States of the EU. This volume brings together contributions dealing with these three sources of human and fundamental rights. The focus is on individual rights such as personality rights, the freedom of profession and social rights. The articles discuss the ongoing development of these fundamental rights in Europe.
