In 384 songs, from "Talking New York" on his 1962 debut album to "Highlands" on his critically praised 1997 album Time Out of Mind, Bob Dylan has created a body of work unmatched in the pantheon of American music. Also since the last revision, Dylan has released a three-CD retrospective (Biograph), a three-CD collection of rarities and outtakes (The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3), the third volume of his Greatest Hits, a two-CD recording of his legendary 1966 "Royal Albert Hall" concert (The Bootleg Series Volume 4), along with ten other releases, one of which documented Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration at Madison Square Garden. His music continues to reach new ears while maintaining an extremely loyal and faithful following among long-time listeners. And with a whole new cover and page design, this new volume will be a major improvement over the dated look of the current edition. "Everybody is getting set for the day when Bob Dylan becomes canonized and takes a major seat at the top of the cathedral, " says Donn Pennebaker, the filmmaker who captured Dylan in Don't Look Back, the documentary that followed the young folk singer's 1965 tour of England. And reading through the pages of this collection, it's evident that day has come.
