What are the subtle influences related to race that cause children to become who they are as adults? How does one's race impact one's life? How does ignoring the issues of race influence our life's choices? What is the result of growing up largely oblivious to issues of race? These are issues I explore as they have related to my life. Growing Up White is a personal memoir - an autobiographical account of who I was for the first 22 years of my life. To some extent, that's all it is - just a life story - not related to race at all. But this is the point - I went to school, played with friends, entered the world of work, and had romances, all without thinking much about the many advantages I had due to my race.
