Carl U. Eggleston, a proud Virginian and a lifetime resident of Southside Virginia, has published his first book, Joy & Pain: My Way. The book holds a mirror to the regional and national scene in the 1950's-1960's as he describes the local issues and provocative challenges of growing up in Farmville, Virginia during segregation and integration. Then beginning in the 1970's, he outlines his life as young married man, successful business partners and eventually political operative for many successful democratic candidates in the 5th Congressional District of Virginia. The book is a Who's Who of 'movers and shakers' in unprecedented times leading up the election of Barack Obama as the first black President of the United States. This is a story of how, Carl U. Eggleston, a 1969 graduate of the historic Robert R. Moton High School and a Moton Brown Scholar overcame many barriers to become a successful businessman in Farmville, Prince Edward County, Virginia. This edition is printed in gray-scale with over 75 photographs, letters, testimonials and illustrations.
