Jonson helped popularize the comedy of humours as well as satirical plays and he is often regarded as the second greatest English playwright after William Shakespeare. Some of Jonson's classics include The Alchemist, Volpone, Every Man in His Humour, and Bartholomew Fair. Every Man in His Humour is a play that was first performed in 1598. The play is notable for each of its characters being dominated by humour or obsession. The action centers around a man who is concerned about his son's morals and tries to spy on him.
