
Excerpt from Cooperative Economic Insect Report, Vol. 4: August 20, 1954 The Weather Bureau's 80-day outlook for the period from mid-august to mid-september calls for temperatures to average above seasonal normals in a large part of the United States extending from New England into the Southwest, with greatest departures in the Ohio and lower Mississippi, Valleys. Below normal temperatures are expected in the Northern Plains and Plateau Region, with greatest departures in the Northwest. In other areas near normal temperatures are indicated. Precipitation amounts are expected to be subnormal in the East, South, and Southwest, but near to above normal rains are predicted for the Great Plains and Mid -west.
