Excerpt from The Agricultural Situation, Vol. 37: September 1953 The contrast with cattle prices is dramatic. In 1951, when cattle were scarce but hogs more plentiful, Choice steers sold at Chicago for $36 per 100 pounds. Barrows and gilts brought scarcely $21 - 42 percent less. Now, with cattle prices having declined for 2 years, the relation is opposite. Prices of barrows and gilts were higher than Choice steers from late April through July. They averaged 10 percent higher. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
