Sophie is filled with awe at each new experience she has in Grandfather's garden. As Grandfather goes about his garden chores, she tags along and lets her imagination join in the fun of believing in Grandfather’s Vegetable-Patch Fairies. With the fairies hard at work, Sophie has to be patient and hope for bad things to be turned into something good, knowing she and Grandfather did their part. This read-to-me picture book is primarily for preschool through elementary school aged children in the spirit of "Living Books," as Charlotte Mason would call them. The story brings nature studies and educational information to its audience as a naturally unfolding conversation intended to inspire children to experience and appreciate the outdoor world for themselves. A brief history and science section follows the story for those who want a bit more.
