Shoujiki is the Japanese word for honesty and Integrity, in this case, it's also wholeness and strength, like the integrity of a bridge for example. Using a martial arts theme, this method is designed as a conversational workout, building emotional strength and agility. Players graduate from white belt, with a very slim chance of controversy, on up to black belt, which has the highest chance of controversy. (It is not recommended to skip through to higher belt questions until the group is well established.) White belts start with beginner's mind and black belts end with it. This means we assume nothing, and allow for differing opinions. Benefits of The Shoujiki Method: A dojo is a place of martial arts practice. Manners and etiquette there are a priority so that the sensei can help students learn without injury. Our dojo motto was: "Let us have the Universal Spirit that loves and protects all things and helps all things to grow and develop. Wouldn't it be nice if the people decided this? Rather than loving to argue or to be brutally "honest," we would learn dojo etiquette first? What if people gathered together from diverse backgrounds, entering a conversation with courtesy, like a bow of respect? This martial arts theme supports cooperation and prevents escalating conflict. This can bring hope to others for an enjoyable and meaningful conversation while also having a fun. Friendly chibi animals represent the lighthearted, child-like mood necessary to level up, the higher belt questions are not for little ones. The goal is to share honestly, while maintaining good humor, integrity and compassion for differences. Players choose a sensei, (teacher/moderator) someone easy-going, who will award higher belts to players as they progress. As on
