This is a nostalgic story about a seventeen year old innocent girl who went to France shortly after World War II to care for three children. After attending a Catholic girl boarding school, she left for Paris in order to prepare for her future. It was an exciting time in Paris as it was the time of Sartre, Juliette Greco and Yves Montand. The phenomenon of 'man' was rather unknown to her and she had a hard time coming to terms with her feelings and experiences with men. The history of the Netherlands and Napoleon are also woven into the story. Lily Malherbe was born in Amsterdam (1931). Currently living in Maastricht, after having lived in various places. She used to be a ship's nurse and hostess to passengers and merchant ships that cruise all over the world. She later worked as a medical social worker in a psychiatric hospital, and as a teacher Health Science, after getting married. She wrote children's stories back in the 50's, but only in recent years, she began publishing books and stories, all of which have some autobiographical element.
