The Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research (FRASER) started in 2004 as a data preservation and accessibility project of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. FRASER's mission is to safeguard and provide easy access to the nation's economic history-particularly the history of the Federal Reserve System-through digitization of documents related to the U.S. financial system. FRASER preserves and provides access to economic and banking data and policy documents. To this end, various types of documents have been digitized, including: publications of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, publications of District Federal Reserve Banks, states and speeches of Federal Reserve policymakers, archival materials of Federal Reserve policymakers, government data publications, statistical releases, books and Congressional hearings.
The March 1947 issue of the Survey of Current Business provides a snapshot of the American economy at a pivotal post-war moment. This publication, digitized by the Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research (FRASER), offers detailed economic data and analysis from the period. It serves as a primary source for understanding the economic conditions, policies, and trends that shaped the United States in the immediate aftermath of World War II, reflecting the transition from a wartime to a peacetime economy.
As a historical government publication, the 'Survey of Current Business: March 1947' is valued for its primary source data and historical economic context. Its digitization by FRASER makes it accessible to researchers, economists, and historians studying post-war American economic policy and trends. The publication offers direct insight into the economic conditions and statistical reporting methods of the era, serving as a foundational document for understanding the period's financial landscape.
