In 1938 the Irish Government requested that senior pupils in our national schools be asked to write essays on local tales, folklore, topography, placenames, folk cures, superstitions, and other local interest studies.The half a million or so pages are now part of the Dúchas Schools' Collection in Dublin.This book quotes many of the essays from the four schools in the parish of Lackagh, County Galway, Ireland; Lackagh NS, Coolarne NS, Cregmore NS, Bawnmore NS, along with a few other essays from outside the parish schools, but where Lackagh parish is mentioned.
