What happens when you lose your mother and end up living with a father you don't really know? PIPER is the story of a stubborn, gangly teenager who is devastated when her adoptive mom drowns in the Jacuzzi at the home of her dad's boss. The town suspects what Piper refuses to believe, that her mother was having an affair with her father's employer, the publisher of a local newspaper. Her struggle to maintain reverence for the whimsical, artistic mother she adored is complicated by her dad's refusal to share her outrage. And so, she attempts to take matters into her own hands in order to quell the rumors and avenge her mother's death. Piper is left with two allies: her seventy-seven-year-old grandpa who, instead of going to a nursing home, moves into the basement with his collection of dogs, and the video-crazed son of a retired master sergeant who shares her disturbing affection for the same beautiful Makah Indian girl.
