The Wife of Sir Isaac Harman, written by H.G. Wells, was published in 1914. It follows the protagonist, a Lady Harman, and her moral, emotional and intellectual conflicts that arise within a loveless marriage to the older Sir Isaac Harman. A self-made man, that grew rich as the owner of a bread and cake company. The novel has strong feminist and socialist themes which are well balanced by a strongly constructed plot.
