Author Description

This biography describes the life and work of Henri Gervex, a French painter of the modern period who worked in a variety of styles. Although highly successful during his lifetime, Gervex's contributions to art have been overshadowed by those of his more famous contemporaries. He is best known for the scandalous 1878 painting "Rolla" which is the cover of this volume. This book was published for a 1992 exhibition of the artist's work.
