Excerpt from Foreign Crops and Markets, Vol. 9: July 9, 1924 In the study of international trade statistics 'it is generally understood that in any one year the exports of a given commodity from Country A to Country B will rarely check with the imports of the same commodity into Country 13 from Country A. These discrepanc1es result from a variety of causes, the most obvious of which is that the time occupied in transit frequently turns the exports of one year in Country A into the imports of the following year in Country 13. In the case of wheat trade between North America and the United Kingdom, however, there are unusually wide discrepancies, which are not smoothed out over a series of years, as may be seen from Tables I and 11.
