Author Description

Aurora Australis was the first book ever written, printed, illustrated and bound in the Antarctic. Containing a selection of stories edited by Sir Ernest Shackleton, the book was produced using a handpress during the winter months of 1908. This edition reproduces those stories and illustrations as a tribute to the outstanding effort of producing a beautiful book with limited skills and difficult conditions.
