When a wagon train of settlers gets slammed by a Montana blizzard while on the trail for Wyoming, a former United States calvaryman rides in to help them. Major Henry Baugh Garside is a ruthless commander and before long, tries to take over the leadership of the group from Morgan McCoy. The settlers worship Garside and think of himself as some kind of Moses, leading them on to the Promised Land. Anything Garside wants, they are willing to give him and if there is somebody that Garside hates, they are willing to kill for him. But McCoy knows what Garside really is - a power-hungry madman, greedy for the settler's livestock and gold, and greedier still for their women. McCoy knows the Wyoming country as well as he knows his own name. There is no Promised Land in those forbidding hills....
