Alias is a book which was published as a completion of exhibitions and projects realized during Krakow Photomonth 2011 - curated by Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin. Just like the main program, ALIAS is closely connected to strategy of heteronym used in art. The first part of the publication is dedicated to a presentation of projects created and ordered by foreign curators, and made by duets "writer- artist". This part of book consists from texts presenting imaginary charactersis as well as from depicting them photographs. The second part of this publication is a review of works made by artist who did use the heteronym strategy in their accomplishments e.g. Balthus, Marcel Duchamp, Patrick Ireland, Ray Gun. ALIAS describes not only various incarnations of characters but also realizations of specific works (photography, painting or installation). ALIAS is an extraordinary publication - most of all because there has never been such a collection of information about works made by imaginary artists and characters gathered and connected with critical reflection about the place of that kind of autocreative strategy in contemporary art. Projects created for the Festival in 2011 and presented in this book as a text illustrated with photography, are at any time the first and the last realization - characters created by artists invited for this cooperation are "back to live" only for purpose of the publication and projects created during Krakow Photomonth Festival 2011.
