Excerpt from The Arc Spectrum of Bromine and Its Structure The program of spectroscopic research in progress at the Bureau of Standards for more than 15 years has had as one of its objects the exploration of the hitherto unknown red and infra-red regions of the spectra of the different elements as far as present photographic methods will permit. Work on the spectrum of bromine was started in January, 1922, on receipt from Prof. J. M. Eder, of Vienna, of several Geissler tubes containing Br at pressures of 10, 20, 30, and 45 mm Hg. The experiments with these tubes revealed a spectrum extending at least to 8272 A. The lines, however, were not sharp, owing to the fact that with the transformer then available the tubes could be operated only with highly condensed discharges.
