What Is a Doula? A Doula supports, encourages, motivates and inspires a woman through the most momentous moment of her life, that of giving birth, improving the experience and birthing outcomes for both the mother and the baby. Doulas provide information and support to mum, dad, family and friends and they help the mother to make informed decisions about maternity care. Doulas support different kinds of births and different parenting choices and they work alongside midwives and doctors but not in clinical roles, more like your dedicated friend. Birth doulas provide continuous support through pregnancy, labour and birth and the immediate postnatal period. Postnatal doulas provide flexible practical and emotional support postnatally for families in their own homes. Some doulas will work as both your birth and postnatal doula, while others work as one or the other. Use your 'I Love My doula' Tracker-Journal as part of your birthing tool kit. It will help you to keep all your important information in one place from the moment you find out you are pregnant, right up to the actual birth and, if you wish, your Doula may continue to support you after the birth too. That's why 'I Love My Doula' and you should too.
