Excerpt from Hine and Nichols' New Digest of Insurance Decisions, Fire and Marine: Together With an Abstract of the Law on Each Important Point in Fire and Marine Insurance The aim of the present work is to furnish a complete summary of the law relative to Fire and Marine insurance, as modified and extended by the latest judicial decisions down to 1881, in so far as that object can be accomplished within the compass of a single volume. During the last six or seven years, and since the latest insurance digests and text-books have been published, upwards of one thousand fire and marine cases have been decided in the higher courts of this country and England, embracing nearly every prominent question connected with this business, together with many important issues not heretofore raised. Full digests of these cases are presented in the following pages, together with the citation of several thousand previous decisions in which similar points were adjudicated, and which were quoted by the courts in support of the doctrines enunciated. To give complete ness to the work as a book of reference, a brief abstract of the law on each topic, with a selection of standard cases in support, precedes the regular digest of recent cases. Nearly two hundred topics, alphabetically arranged, will be found thus separately treated.
