Not illustrated. 1854 Excerpt:...Barrett, at 50, 65 and 75 cents and $1 00 per yard, and a portion of the masonry, by each of the parties above named, at the following prices:--$1 95, $2 50, $5 00, $5 12, $6 50 and $8 00, varying fr m time to time, as it passed from one contractor to another. The cost of foundations was $847 47. Sec. 11.--The contract was originally made with GeotdJus, who abandoned the work at about the same time as he did other sections. It was relet to Brown & Bowman, and finally passed into the hands of James Conran, who finished the work, at a cost of 35 cents for earth; ballasting, 70 cents and $1; masonry, $4 and $5 12. Sec. 12.--The contract was originally made with Geotchius, who just commenced the work at 16 cents, and abandoned it. It was relet to Brown and Bowman, at the same price; and they failing, was finished by James Conran, at a cost of--earth, 38 cents; hardpan, 87 cents, and rock, $1 25; ballasting, 70 cents and $1 per yard; masonry, at $4 and $5 12. The foundations cost $834 57. This section and section 13, proved, as far as excavation was concerned, to be the hardest upon the line. The earth was apparently cemented together, so that powder was used with good effect. Sec. 13.--The same as 12--let to Geotchius, and abandoned by him, and finally finished by Conran, at a cost of 38 cents for earth; ballasting, at 70 cents and $1; masonry, $4; foundation, $257 71. Sec. 14.--This section was principally earth and hardpan. The excavation was very heavy, and a great portion of the material was moved half a mile. The contract was with D. Hunkins, who finished the work at--earth, 38 cents, including haul; and hardpan, 60 cents; masonry, second class, $2 50; earth in foundations, 35 cents; ballasting of broken stone, B2 by John Warren, at 50 cents and $1 25...
