The Infant Academy is one of that class of subjects which Sir Joshua Reynolds delighted to paint, and which he treated with a felicity and success that bas never been surpassed. Itrepresenls the sportive fancy of a group of children, one of whoui appears painting from two others, who serve as models, and who have decorated themselves for the occasion with such adventitious finery as chance threw in their way. This admirable picture, of which the composition, expression, and handling, are in perfect harmony, was bequeathed by its painter to bis friend Lord Palmerston, in whose family it still remains; it has been engraved in chalk by F.
