The author chose Marked for Life as the book title because not only had Jesus saved his eternal soul, but he also has to constantly struggle with the stigma of mental health issues and the disdain of others (even so-called Christians) concerning his health issues. Though God, and even humans, can forgive, only God can choose to forget.
