Centuries ago Satan sought to break the faith of a man named Job. Now, heas at it again. This time itas Joe Merritt, a modern-day Job blessed with money, family, and health. In short order Satan yanks it all away, but Merritt refuses to yield. Undaunted, Satan finds Ray Smalske in the Southeastern Institute for the Mentally Ill (SIMI), who becomes a pawn in the hands of the devil. Smalske kidnaps Merrittas wife and flees to South Carolina where he finds employment as a night auditor in Myrtle Beach. He temporarily lives in Huntington Beach State Park, a beautiful park with an alligator-infested lagoonathe perfect place to dump victims.A relentless detective from Virginia, the FBI, and MBPD track down where Smalske is employed. A battle ensues. Smalske escapes back to Huntington. There, at the alligator lagoon, an unusual twist of events takes place that leaves the reader shaken and pondering.
