Software: • Software includes 15 unique cases, each designed to set up specific exercises that will expose medical insurance and billing students to different payers, different billing situations, and common coding errors. • Each case includes 5 videos (one at check-in, three in the exam room, and one at check-out) for a total of almost 2 hours of video throughout the product – giving medical insurance and billing students a rare opportunity to step into the shoes of the billable service providers and compare what is documented against what actually happens in the video. • Interface tested and designed to match computer experience level of medical insurance and billing students. • Exposes students to realistic information resources – such as medical records for each case, an office policy manual, a fee schedule, a daysheet, and more – to prepare them for managing data for on-the-job decision-making Study Guide: • Complements textbook content through study guide lessons that correlate reading assignments with patients in the virtual practice. • Each study guide lesson focuses on a few objectives, to create brief (20-30 minutes of “seat time”), manageable learning experiences. • Promotes active learning as students collect information from a variety of sources to make decisions about how each case should be coded and billed. • Encourages critical thinking as students discuss and troubleshoot the documentation of the medical records. • Contains common coding errors, which students must spot and correct, just as in real practice. • Augments knowledge of HIPAA by directing the student to compare the policy manual, the contents of each case’s medical record and what actually happens in the videos. • Lessons also available online, allowing students to complete their assignments and submit them electronically to their instructor.
