
In the latest book the author John CT Miller remembers some of the highlights from his many trips to Vietnam, including unusual coffee shops, a Buddhist styled theme park, spending time at a school caring for children suffering from Agent Orange, the Fito museum of traditional medicine dating back 3000 years, the Cu Chi Tunnels, the shrine of the monk Thich QuangDuc before unexpectedly travelling for the first time to Da Lat in the central highlands of that country. Da Lat known as the city of eternal spring was first discovered by French bacteriologist Alexandre Yersin, who years after his death was made an honorary citizen of Vietnam. The city of Da Lat is surrounded by lakes, waterfalls and forests, and grows much of the flowers and coffee exported around the world. Believe it or not, in this tropical country it is also the city where woollen clothes are sold and worn. One of the many highlights of the trip to Da Lat was spending time in the former summer palace and learning about the life of the last emperor of Vietnam, Bao Dai, known as the playboy monarch and his first wife empress queen Nam Phuong Marie-Therese. Da Lat also includes the most weirdest built house in the world known as the Crazy house, and the greatest yet bizarre and beautiful 12000 beer bottle Linh Phuoc pagoda in the country. While in the city, the author visited a model clay-sculptured village, lunched at the Truc Lam Zen monastery, enjoyed the many different street foods including Vietnamese pizza, took a cable car ride over the city and got to taste the most unusual teas and expensive coffee in the world.
