There is a little feeling, I understand, among the members of the Supreme Court--three new men went on the first of the year. As I understand from pretty good authority, for some reason or other these three men insisted upon the State Board of Health fumigating the chambers of the Supreme Court, and the other members of the Court have rather resented it. I don't know just exactly what to expect from this next speaker, but I am going to wait in great expectation. I have the great pleasure of introducing Judge Thomas Arthur. THE CONSULTATION BOOM Members of the Iowa State Bar Association and Guests, and our Honored Guest from Colorado: Just what can you expect from a speaker when he is hog-tied by our Toastmaster? A note was just passed to me, reading, "My God, Tom, we are sorry for you." I suppose the sympathy extended is because of the limitation placed upon me. The title of the toast assigned to me suggests to your minds, perhaps, that some secrets of the consultation room will be told. I am not going to tell you anything that I don't want you to know. I know the danger of undertaking to exploit some pet idea that the speaker might consider important and of a serious character at a banquet board after a strenuous day spent in considering great questions, but at the hazard of being too prosy I am going to address you for a few minutes on a subject which I think will be of interest to you. You know all about the submission of cases--that is your business--I will not assume to advise you about that. You present cases to us. They are submitted. Just what takes place after that you do not know so...
