Koa has only ever known the grit and grime of the fighting pit she grew up in. She was left on the doorstep of the pit boss and has been an enslaved fighter known as Silver Wing ever since she could train. Her world is rocked when she is sold to the King's guardians as a sparring dummy. Her hope of freedom is crushed because becoming part of the guard tribe is a life sentence. Rinri grew up in a small clan in the south of Wai on the opposite side of Avonturr. He and his lively group of friends have passed their gauntlets and head to the north to pursue different careers. He is set to become the next Itan, and the training turns out to be more rigid and deadlier than he thought. Things take an unplanned turn when Koa shows up in the library asking for help finding where she came from.
