Commissioned by the Marquise de Maintenon, who was seeking to consolidate her noble origins, this biography of Agrippa d'Aubigne neglects the poet and polemicist, instead exalting the courtier, soldier, and servant of the monarchy. It nevertheless constitutes an important marker in the creation of the myth surrounding Agrippa d'Aubigne.
