Do you know how many words your child has in their vocabulary? It's time to help your child's speech from home. The speech journal gives parents the ability to track their child’s current speech such as: Expressive- How your child is currently communicating, or what word they said that day. Receptive- How well they followed simple steps that day or if they were able to identify any family members in the home. As therapists, we have to know and recall what strategies were used during the session to ensure that we continue to use those during routines when needed to encourage speech. I have listed very common strategies that are parent-friendly to use with your child. These strategies are used by professional SLP and now you can check off which ones your child responds to the best. Remember building a child’s speech is a matter of using the right strategies and creating a language enriched environment. Cognition- how well your child can problem solve, or attend to a task.
