About the Author Shelley C. SafianDr. Shelley C. Safian has been teaching Health Care Administration, HealthInformation Management, and Medical Billing and Coding, both onsite and online, formore than 15 years.Safian writes a monthly Q&A column for the online publication JustCoding andwrites several articles each year on various aspects of coding. In addition, she is theauthor of six textbooks. Her newest book, Foundations of Health Care Administration,was released January 2014.Safian is in her fourth year as the chair of the continuing education committee forFHIMA (Florida Health Information Management Association). In the past, she hasserved on several committees and practice councils on the national, state, and locallevels of the American Health Information Management Association.She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a CertifiedCoding Specialist (CCS-P), a Certified Professional Coder (CPC-H, CPC-I), and anICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
