Author Description

In this text, published in aid of the International League for the Protection of Horses, 40 of the top writers and participants in the sport--including Dick Francis, Clement Freud, Hugh McIlvanney, John Oaksey, Lester Piggott, Brough Scott, and Ian Wooldridge--reveal unforgettable moments in their involvement with racing. The chapters in this book recall great horses, such as Secretariat, Shergar, and Desert Orchid, and famous occasions, such as Aldaniti's Grand National, the 1990 Breeders' Cup, and the return of Lester Piggott. But they also evoke memories of the less well-known stages on which the great drama of horse racing is played out--including meetings in Cyprus, the Faeroes, Norway, Madagascar, and the Australian bush.
