Collages & Bricolages, the Journal of International Writing, is an annual that gathers literary, innovative and provative authors of essays, fiction, drama, poetry, interviews & book reviews. Artwork in b&w, i.e. photos, prints, drawings, etc, is also showcased. C&B is not shy and deals with tough political and social issues, such as: China in the Decade Before Tiananmen Square, Homophobia in Academia, Voices from Inside (prison writing), Racial & Cultural Tensions. It also deals with specific moments and aspects of literature and has issues on George Sand, Avant-Garde, Beckett, Ionesco & Metaphysical Farce. In the present issue, readers take a pick at absurdist visions of the future, with tints of comedy and cruelty ("White Buffalo," by Allen Lang). Mark Antony Rossi sees this future as Brave New World. Glenn Hawkes reflects on it through images of MOBY DICK. And then, there are poetic promenades with Allison Eir Jenks, Gail Cerridwen and Richard Martin, which can be imprinted with political satire (see Gavin Jones). Crystal Wilkinson, Jon Pandozzi, Anthony Garavante, Mark Blickley, Gabriel Lanci, Gaylord Brewer, Claude McMillan, & Ralph Hunt make powerful, poignant portraits of women. The great Miguel de Unamuno, a central figure of the Spanish Generation of 1898 is here, too. So is Bolivian Pedro Shimose. There is more, but here is what has been said of COLLAGES & BRICOLAGES: "...tough... with global, political perspective and a feisty attitude" (SMALL PRESS REVIEW); "memorable... captivating"(U-DIRECT); "a joy" (Cherokee-Appalachian author Marilou Awiakta). "Collages & Bricolages is quite impressive. [It]... illuminates a thoughtful and dynamic approach not only to literature, but current problems gripping society." (Haisa Kaiserova, Head of the Press Section of Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel). Otherwise, C&B looks good on coffee tables.
