Based on scholarly presentations given at the New York Southeast Asia Network conference held at Pace University in New York City in April 2021, Empire Competition revisits the history of empire rivalries in Southeast Asia. This volume draws on a variety of primary source materials to investigate the multifaceted dimensions of empire building in this highly contested region. The analytical findings and insights of this timely publication throw lights on Southeast Asia's shifting power dynamics with other countries and with China in particular.
