Students learn about and discuss the key elements of a Francophone TV newscast. They analyze the different components that are covered in such a newscast, including the weather forecast, entertainment or special-interest items, and sports. Using authentic documents on both video and in printed reading materials (taken from authentic Francophone newscasts, newspapers, and radio broadcasts), students discover the many different facets of the media in Canadian society and its impact on its viewers and listeners. Students discuss tips for putting together a newscast in order to prepare for the final task. Final task: presented either on video or live in front of the class. Students will create and present a news program, featuring local, national and international news, as well as other popular features such as entertainment, the arts, sports, weather, etc. Age appropriate, full-colour and motivating themes, containing opportunities for speaking, listening, reading, and writing, presented in a variety of formats. Also included are models of final tasks, video clips, learning strategy boxes, and examination of grammar in Quête-language boxes. A mini reference hand-book "Mini-guide", located at the back of the student book, includes literacy strategies, additional information related to the themde, and a summary of all language structures presented in the unit.
This student book investigates the structural and linguistic components of Francophone media to equip learners with the skills to produce their own news broadcasts. Author Irene Bernard provides a structured pedagogical framework that utilizes authentic media documents, including television newscasts, radio segments, and print journalism. The text guides students through the analysis of media impact on Canadian society while integrating practical language acquisition strategies.
