Journeys of Discovery: Integrating topics in a classroom environment introduces an exciting approach to implementing an integrated curriculum. The authors use the story form model as a framework for teaching social education topics in a co-operative classroom environment. The model encourages teachers to see lessons as good stories to be told; by placing content in context children become fully engaged and learning becomes more meaningful. The five units presented in this book offer a series of practical integrated activities which develops the story around a central topic. The topics are: * The Environment * Exploring a Local Community Through Time * Discovering Gold * Native Americans * A Colonised Country: Papua New Guinea The curriculum focus is clearly indicated for each activity and a suggested time-frame will assist teachers with their planning and presentation. The topics in Journeys of Discovery are often explored in the upper primary classroom; however, the framework can easily be applied to other topics and age levels.
