The first half of the nineteenth century saw the beginning of diplomatic communication between the rulers of Ethiopia and European governments, notably the British government. This collection contains twenty-nine letter, including the earliest surviving missive from an Ethiopian ruler to the British government, with reporductions of the original documents, detailed annotations, and helpful introductions.
