This monograph is a scientific review of the mushroom-like genera Cantharellus, Craterellus, Gomphus and fifteen others of which two are described as new. Their interest lies in the fact that they are intermediate between the gill-less Basidiomycetes and the true agarics. The greater part of this work is devoted to an illustrated account of the species of the world in which they are incorporated keys to the identification of genera, species and varieties. This volume is from the private research collection of University of Michigan mycologist Alexander H. Smith with his bold signatures at the top of both front endpapers. There are neat marginal ink annotations in the text in the hand of Alexander Smith.
