Author Description

The most diverse and numerous bird population in the world is found in the tropics. Tropical birds rely on the brilliance of their plumage to attract attention and the illustrations show the richness and variety of coloration and form. By describing typical representatives of the major habitats in the area - jungle, grassland, wetland, mountain and town - the author shows how this variety is matched by an equal diversityof behaviour. He describes how some birds have adapted to co-existence with man and other animals competing for the same habitat and the measures which are being taken to conserve those species endangered by their inability to change.
