A rancher must team up with a medical examiner to find a killer after his college crush calls him moments before a gunshot. Ford Cardwell, a rancher at Cardwell Ranch, is drawn into a dangerous investigation when his former college crush contacts him, only for a gunshot to follow. Partnering with medical examiner Henrietta “Hitch” Rogers, Ford begins to suspect the call was a deliberate setup rather than a random act of violence. As they work together to uncover the truth, they find themselves targeted by a relentless killer.

The premise sets up a classic Western mystery with romantic undertones, typical of the Harlequin Intrigue line. The narrative likely focuses on the developing relationship between Ford and Hitch as they navigate the dangers of the case. Readers can expect a blend of suspenseful investigation and the rugged setting of a Montana ranch. The inclusion of a series suggests a continuation of characters and themes within the same world.
