This text investigates the integration of multimedia data types within object-relational database management systems. Lynne Dunckley provides a structured examination of how traditional database architectures must evolve to accommodate complex media formats like audio, video, and imagery. By focusing on the implementation of SQL3 standards, the author establishes a framework for managing non-textual data within a relational environment.

Experts identify this work as a foundational resource for understanding the transition from standard relational models to multimedia-capable systems. Readers frequently note the technical density of the prose, which serves as a useful guide for students and database administrators alike.
