Tumbleweed Pleas is an attempt at modern poetry for modern people. By modern, I mean...I don't know...not necessarily sentimental, I guess. My experience is that most men, when they read the first sexy poem--which is at the beginning of the book--run like rabbits. I get the feeling that they stop reading there, because that's all they have to say about it. So let me tell you, "Don't be a p@&$y!" Did you see the movie The descendants? That's what I mean. Women, on the other hand, seem to understand that I'm not a shock-freak, and easily carry on to find the abstract and un-obvious tenderness beyond the...bawdiness, I guess, would be the word. To me it's just plain speaking. Most of the women I know that have read it said they liked it a lot (although some obviously hated it) and seem to be also saying, underneath, "Yeah...why don't people get that?" You have your own mind, right? See, I knew that.
