About the AuthorTony Martin, Professor Emeritus of Wellesley College, taught in the Africana Studies Department for 34 years. Martin began his teaching career at the University of Michigan-Flint, the Cipriani Labour College in Trinidad, and St. Mary's College in Trinidad. He began teaching at Wellesley in 1973. Martin is the author of a number of books on Marcus Garvey, including, Race First: The Ideological and Organizational Struggles of Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association (1976), Marcus Garvey Hero: A First Biography, African Fundamentalism: A Literary and Cultural Anthology of Garvey's Harlem Renaissance, Literary Garveyism: Garvey, Black Arts and the Harlem Renaissance, The Poetical Works of Marcus Garvey, and The Pan- African Connection: From Slavery to Garvey and Beyond.
