Seventy-two biographical vignettes of those who settled in southern New Mexico Territory from 1823 until statehood in 1912 portray the men who shaped the economic, political and social life of a portion of the Territory largely ignored by the government in the northern portion of the Territory. Jose Cisneros drawings, 80+ photographs, and maps supplement the text.
