Inspirational and practical guide to sculpture - styles, schools, practices, techniques - written by a successful practising sculptor and lavishly illustrated in b/w and colour. Nigel Konstam trained at Camberwell School of Art under Karel Vogel, and is a teacher and lecturer on sculpture who has had many solo exhibitions in Britain and Europe; his work has been shown at the Royal Academy and his drawings are in the British Museum. His most recent solo show in Florence in 2002 was the occasion for the celebration of HM The Queen's Golden Jubilee. A highly original researcher into artists' methods, including the use of mirrors, he has contributed to the major art magazines, is a founder of the Artists' Historical Society and a past Chairman of the Contemporary Portrait Society. His discovery of an industrial-style chimney on the Acropolis rock must substantially change received ideas about Greek casting, and he also produces proof that the Greeks started their life-size bronzes from waxes cast from living models.
