The Church of Ireland will begin using its new edition of the Church Hymnal in September 2000. The new hymnal will be launched with major publicity throughout Ireland, including special services in Dublin and elsewhere. This is the first major new hymnal in the denomination since 1960, andwill bring to the Church a far wider and more useful selection of texts and tunes. At the same time, the Church is becoming accustomed to using the provisions of the Revised Common Lectionary. This again offers a wider selection of readings, psalms, and canticles, but the structure is less welldefined than the earlier lectionaries that have been used. A guide to the most appropriate hymns for use on every major Sunday and festival will therefore be an extremely welcome aid for all those respoinsible for the ordering of regular worship.
This book serves as a comprehensive guide to selecting appropriate hymns for worship services within the Church of Ireland, specifically aligned with the Revised Common Lectionary. Editor Edward Darling provides a structured resource to assist clergy and worship leaders in navigating the transition to the 2000 edition of the Church Hymnal. By mapping specific musical selections to the lectionary's readings, psalms, and canticles, the text aims to standardize and enhance the liturgical experience for congregations.
