This book describes modern electochemistry, beginning at elementary level and progressing through to the most recent advances in this interdisciplinary subject. The material is presented in three main parts. The first introduces the fundamental principles of thermodynamics, kinetics, and mass transport associated with electrode reactions. The second considers experimental methods that are available to study electrode and electrochemical processes: steady-state with forced convection, linear sweep and step/pulse voltammetric techniques and impedance, together with modern surface analysis, microscopic, and spectroscopic procedures that complement the elctrochemical information. The third part discusses wide-ranging applications, including sensors, industrial electrolysis and batteries, corrosion studies, and the rapidly expanding field of bioelectrochemistry. Easily accessible appendixes provide the necessary mathematical basics, principles of electrical circuits, and digital simulation.
